Ruben Amorim has been branded “delusional” and told to “come back to reality” after revealing his Premier League title dream at Manchester United.

The Portuguese tactician has been made immediately aware of how big a challenge he faces at Old Trafford after being appointed as successor to Erik ten Hag. He opened his reign with a three-match unbeaten run, but has since suffered back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

It is now being suggested, with United sat 13th in the Premier League table, that Europa League glory in 2024-25 may represent the Red Devils’ best route into the Champions League – with an eight-point gap to the top four already needing to be bridged.
WHAT AMORIM SAID
Amorim has responded to those claims by saying: “As a coach I cannot focus just on that. The way we can see in the future titles, I think that our goal is to win the Premier League. Of course you can do the maths and you understand that for a big club like us to be in the Champions League is so important, and then you can look at the table and you can see that from Europa League maybe is easier that you can take this. But I’m not focused on that – our goal is to win the Premier League, not just to go to Champions League. To go to Champions League is an important point, to win the Premier League that is really clear. But for me the most important thing is to win and to see something different in the team in every game.”

While that ambition is to be applauded, fans have been quick to suggest that a dose of reality is required. @AFC_Grey said: “They’re 13th. He has zero chance. On a similar theme, @T0SINB0I said: “Are you hallucinating? This is England not Portugal. Wake up mate.”
