Graeme Souness has yet again hit out at Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS for leading Manchester United to “their lowest point” in history.

The situation at United is as complicated as ever despite the minority takeover by Ratcliffe and INEOS earlier this year. The ownership made their first major decision last season by opting to keep manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, but their trust in the Dutchman has not worked out as the Red Devils sit 14th in the Premier League. The United top brass decided to part ways with Ten Hag on Monday afternoon with assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy assigned as the interim manager.

United are now close to signing Ruben Amorim to take over at the club as the Sporting CP boss is seen as the best candidate available. However, Souness has now targeted INEOS for leading the Red Devils to their 'lowest point' and targeted sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox for signing the likes of Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs De Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee, who as per the former Liverpool star, aren't 'good enough'.

Speaking on William Hill’s podcast , Souness said: “I look at Manchester United since INEOS came in and it’s screaming out to me that they don’t really get football. They’ve now got their so-called footballing people in charge, in Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox, and I can’t believe for a minute that they didn’t have an input on the players they signed in the summer.
“They brought in Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs De Ligt, and Joshua Zirkzee. If they think those players are good enough for United, they’re wrong. They’ve still allowed £200 million to be spent on players like that. They’ve had one summer at the club and look what they’ve done with it! That has to fall at Dan Ashworth’s door.
“Ruben Amorim’s job now is to get the best out of this group of players, in whatever system that may be. He is walking into what is a very difficult job.”
WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?
United are now looking towards Amorim to sort out the massive mess that Ten Hag has left behind at Old Trafford. Although they are said to have a deal for the Portuguese wrapped up, he will not arrive in Manchester until late-November, reports say.
