Manchester City have confirmed that director of football Txiki Begiristain will leave his role at the end of the season, to be replaced by Hugo Viana.

City have confirmed that Begiristain will depart at the end of the 2024-25 season, having joined the club in 2014. Once the Club World Cup is over, Hugo Viana will take the reins at the Etihad Stadium, bringing an end to a trophy-laden era.

Begiristain was central to the appointment of Pep Guardiola, and with the two teaming together, City have embarked on a decade of unprecedented success, capped by their treble win in 2022-23. He will work with Viana, per City, to ensure a smooth transition.
WHAT CITY SAID
City confirmed in their statement that they will pay tribute to Begiristain before his departure, saying: "Manchester City can confirm that Txiki Begiristain will step away from his full-time role as Director of Football at the end of the 2024-25 season.
"Following a trophy-laden twelve years at the Etihad Stadium, Txiki will leave his current post following the Club’s involvement in this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup and will be succeeded by Hugo Viana of Sporting CP.
"Viana will begin his full-time role in the summer of 2025 but will collaborate with Txiki in the preceding months to ensure a smooth transition. We look forward to paying tribute to Txiki’s outstanding contribution to Manchester City at the end of the season."
