A Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday represents essentially Chelsea’s final chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League – or at least making the top four race a little cagier than it should be considering how far behind the Blues were a few weeks ago.
Chelsea face a tall order in forcing the Reds out of the Champions League spots even if they do beat them on Sunday. But there’s still a chance that Tottenham could slip up during their final three games, currently sitting five points ahead of the former Premier League champions in fourth place.
That being said, it’s still a question of priorities for Antonio Conte with the FA Cup final on the horizon, and an injury to a key player now would seriously dent their chances of beating Manchester United at Wembley.
With that in mind, perhaps a curveball is in order this weekend. January signing Ross Barkley hasn’t featured for Chelsea since the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, but the former Everton youngster is Merseyside born-and-bred and would relish the challenge of facing his ex-employers’ bitter rivals this Sunday.
So, Chelsea fans, would you hand the 22-cap England international a shock start against Liverpool? Let us know by voting below…
